What we offer

The Peace Institute is dedicated to interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary applied research and teaching as well as to continuing education and training in peace studies, with a particular focus on peace education and peace ethics.

In light of current socio-political crises and tensions, the Institute empowers individuals to actively shape and sustain peace within their communities.

At the core of its work lies the civil and transformative resolution of conflicts. It promotes peaceful cooperation within societies and seeks to reduce various forms of violence, discrimination, and abuse of power.

Through its diverse range of activities, the Peace Institute identifies avenues for action, makes a significant impact on society, and contributes to processes of change. The Institute also fosters interdisciplinary approaches to contemporary issues in peace policy.

With its interdisciplinary and practice-oriented Master’s program in Peace Education, which is unique in Germany, the Peace Institute contributes to the professionalization of peace education.

Its areas of activity include:

  • Teaching
  • Research
  • Knowledge transfer and qualification
  • Public events

Target Groups

A society in transition places specific demands on individuals who encounter conflict and violence in their professional or voluntary roles, or who work as professionals or multipliers.

We therefore view our educational programs and events as a contribution to empowering individuals by developing peace educational and peace ethical competencies, enabling them to deal with conflict and crisis dynamics in a reflective manner and supporting them in their peace work.

The Peace Institute’s programs and events are aimed at the following target groups:

  • Multipliers in the fields of peace work, education, and community engagement (e.g. actors from civil society, churches, NGOs, etc.)
  • Researchers and institutions involved in peace studies, peace education and peace ethics
  • Students
  • Individuals interested in peace policy and civil society actors
